We support Community Crossing- a mission in Welch, WV that is dedicated to serving the least and the lost in one of the poorest counties in America. This is a passion project Vince has been involved with for more than 15 years. He started going to McDowell County, WV to help repair homes for people living in poverty with his old church. When that church stopped going we decided to lead our own mission trip with our family and friends. We started taking groups seven years ago and it’s something people look forward to every year – especially our 13-year-old daughter - who’s been going since she was 6 years old.
It’s a four-day trip with two solid work days. We’ve done all kinds of repair projects including roofing, plumbing, and even structural repairs to a house that was on the verge of collapse. We are always surprised how much we can achieve with the crews who volunteer which include young, old, those who have some construction skills but, often, those who don’t. We know it is only through the power of the Lord that we are able to make a difference in the lives of the families we serve. He, alone, deserves the Glory and we are simply thankful to be able to be His hands and feet for a few days.
Every time we go to McDowell County, WV we are stunned by the level of poverty. It’s hard to believe it until you see it with your own eyes. There are some homes we’ve worked on that sit down long, winding hollars that look like they should be in a third-world country – not in the United States of America. Some homes don’t have indoor plumbing.
We have a Facebook page with more photos and descriptions of some of the families we've been blessed to serve over the years: WV Mission Trip
In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ Acts 20:35
