Vince Busby has been in the construction business for more than 30 years. He began his career working with his father building apartment complexes in New Mexico and Florida. During that time, Vince got hands-on experience in all areas of residential construction as well as construction management. His attention to detail during construction – especially the finishing stage – means you can expect a flawless finish.
While honing his construction skills in the field, Vince caught the eye of an executive at Sherwin Williams and he was recruited to join the international paint company. Over the course of his 10-year career at Sherwin Williams, he managed local stores and eventually became one of the top commercial sales reps in the country thanks to his people skills and work ethic. But even with all this success, there was something missing. Vince dreamed of owning his own business.
Vince finally made the entrepreneurial leap and opened his own painting company in Charlotte, NC. His crews focused on commercial projects and they painted several of the new condominium towers built in the Queen City in the '90s as well as local shopping malls and restaurants.
By 1997, Vince knew he wanted to focus on residential construction and he opened his own remodeling business – Distinctive Building Services. The business thrived thanks to referrals and repeat clients – people who wouldn’t have any other builder work on their homes. Vince’s construction knowledge is so well respected that he’s been tapped to testify as an expert witness by attorneys who specialize in construction litigation.
Vince is a Certified Remodeler. NARI Certified Remodeling Professionals must meet annual re-certification requirements involving continuing education and participation in industry-related programs. NARI certification demonstrates a level of knowledge and expertise that far exceeds that of your everyday remodeler or handyman. Vince is one of only a handful of certified remodelers in the Charlotte-Metro area and the only certified remodeler working on Kiawah Island, SC.
In 2013, Vince Busby joined forces with Design Coordinator, Erin Dougherty and together they formed Distinctive Design / Build / Remodel, LLC which is now Charlotte's trusted source for luxury remodeling and custom homes.

Erin will be involved with your remodel or custom home project from the very beginning. She is able to remove much of the stress clients feel during a construction project by managing hundreds of details and decisions that need to be made. As a former television producer, she is skilled at communication and she makes sure all the players involved in the building process from clients to sub-contractors to trade partners understand what needs to happen and when it needs to happen to keep the project on schedule and on budget.
Erin’s attention to detail means you can relax and enjoy the design and construction process. She will arrange all of your selection meetings with the various showrooms and she will attend those meetings if you need her discerning eye. If you're a busy professional who doesn't have time to visit showrooms, Erin is an award-winning designer and she can curate products for your approval. She is also a Certified Kitchen & Bath remodeler and takes continuing education courses throughout the year which keep her up to date on the latest design and product trends.
Ensuring that decisions are made on time and relayed to the construction site accurately is the key to a successful remodeling or custom home project and you can count on Erin to make sure that happens. She is respected by the sub-contractors who work for her because she is knowledgeable and can anticipate what they need to get their jobs done. Her ability to work with architects, engineers, carpenters, electricians, plumbers and other tradesmen as well as inspectors ensures that your project will be well designed and built to last.
Clients say Erin has an intuitive sense of what they want to achieve even if they aren’t exactly sure how to go about getting it.
